| Q. | What does Oikos mean? |
| A. | Oikos is the Greek word for home. Ecos was coined from Oikos. Eco-ology. Eco-onomy |
| Q. | Do you have a retail outlet? |
| A. | We do not have a garden center operation, but you can pick up trees direct from our farm by ordering in advance. We can have your plants ready within 24 hours. |
| Q. | Are there larger plants available that are not listed on the Web site? |
| A. | Normally not. Some species we may have in higher height ranges but we do not grow ball and burlapped trees, nor do we offer caliper-sized trees. |
| Q. | Why is there a $25 minimum plant order? |
| A. | The actual cost of handling, packing and shipping living plants is much higher than inert objects. Also, see the next question. |
| Q. | How much will shipping be? |
| A. | We prefer to ship by UPS or USPO. Shipping is a flat $10.50 for orders under $70.00, and 15% for orders over $70.00. Please use a street address for delivery. From our location transit time is 1-3 days for most of the Midwest and Northeast. |
| Q. | How do you ship the plants? |
| A. | All plants are packed in boxes. Container plants are watered before shipping and put in plastic bags and wrapped in paper. Each order is checked twice before leaving. Field trees are dipped in water gel and packed in plastic. UPS ground is the preferred method of shipment by us. |
| | Sometimes customers ask for the US Postal Service. We can do that too. Some larger plants and cases of the tree shelters are too big to ship by the postal service. There are more limitations with this service. |
| Q. | What happens if my plants die? |
| A. | We will cover losses due to shipping problems or just lack of plant health from our side. But we do not cover losses due to frost, lack of rain, animal damage, over fertilization, or other natural causes. | |
| Q. | Do you offer seeds of your plants? |
| A. | We do not offer seeds for sale. Almost all of our seeds are used in propagation for trees. We do exchange seeds to individuals, organizations, and institutions that share similar interests. |
| Q. | I found a tree that I would like to have propagated. Can you do that for me? |
| A. | Definitely. We make available our propagation services to anyone. If we can't do it, we can connect you with other nurseries willing to take it on. |
| Q. | Are your plants genetically engineered? |
| A. | No. Our plants are open pollinated strains produced in the same manner as any wild plant. Hybrid plants are produced in the same manner as non-hybrid plants. Pollination occurs by natural means. |
| Q. | Can I order 10 plants and get the 25 price or mix and match different species or types? |
| A. | No. Our price break of 25 plants is similar to the standard in wholesale nurseries where plants are bundled or grown in quantities to accommodate processing and handling for shipment. It is meant for those who want quantities of plants for larger plantings. It is a significant savings on handling. Some plants are only available in small amounts, but feel free to inquire if we have it at the per 25 plant price. |
| Q. | Do you give tours of your farm? |
| A. | Yes. In the fall we can accommodate some tours. For pricing and times please email Ken. |
