From Generation to Generation
3 generations of AsmusesGrowing trees is often a family affair for many people. Such is the case for me. My dad provided me with some inspiration as well as a good work ethic that kept me alive and thriving during my high school and college years. The planting bar I am holding became a living icon for my brother and me. In the early years it was way too heavy, so when my dad lost his grip while spudding an ice fishing hole in our pond it was a comic relief to see it go to the bottom. But come spring, I was the first one diving to find it. Like some sort of alien beacon there it was standing straight up stuck in the soft bottom covered with plants. Today my daughters have provided many hours of planting skills and lots of unusual music in the barn. Maybe someday I will give them the planting bar. Pass it on.
Enjoy,
Ken Asmus
Container Grown Container Grown
We direct seed into our container-grown plant band pots and grow them from one to three years. Plants are well rooted and can be removed from the pot without disturbing the root ball. Excellent for hard-to-start and rare plants when success is critical. Greater flexibility in shipping. Plants can be shipped from March through December.
Field Grown Field Grown
Our field-grown plants are grown in a sandy, organically enriched soil. We use lots of sawdust for mulch. To ensure freshness, all plants are dug within a few days of shipping. To prevent drying, all our plants are dipped in water gel. Plants can be shipped from March to early May, and again in early October to December.
