Ken's Select American Hybrid ChestnutCastanea dentata
Close Resemblance to the American Chestnut
Selected from 5 trees that have been growing here for over 25 years with no signs of blight, even though they are exposed. For the most part these trees look much more “American” and have a high percentage of American type characteristics with straight growth habit. Small nuts are produced after 7-15 years that look and taste like the real American. Possibly not blight immune enough and some trees may not be entirely resistant. We will continue offering these trees unless nature tells us otherwise. We are now including the “Viva” tree in this strain as well because of its apparent immunity and vigorous growth. The Viva tree is by far the most impressive in terms of vigor and straight trunk. Height to 70 ft. with a 50 ft. width.
