Manchurian Apricot-True to Type
True to Type-Cultivated Strain
This species of apricot is found in the most northernly regions of the world in China, Korea and Russia. Our plants are produced from seed and are true to type Chinese forms of apricot often found in the cultivated orchards of China. This strain produces very good quality fruit from seed and is quite productive even on young 4-5 ft. trees. Unlike the Northern Prairie form we sell, these selections are from a more cultivated form where fruit quality is considered more important. This species will cross pollinate all other apricots and itself if you use two plant. So it is self fertile to some extent. Fruiting begins in 3-5 years-when trees reach 4-8 ft. tall when small fruting spurs are produced along the 3 year old branches. For those of you who are in doubt of 'seedling' trees this selection is also good as a rootstock for other apricots in more northern areas. Trees live to 30 to 50 years and reach standard apple tree size to 50 ft.height.
