This close relative of the Autumnberry produces huge amounts of healthy fruits in large clusters. The dark red berries are easy to harvest as they grow all along the branches. Our  plants that we use for seeds were purchased as seedlings and/or grown from seed and began fruiting in 3 years from seedling. Each plant is quite different with ripening going from summer to fall. The leaves and flowers of this species are larger and more ornamental than Autumn Olive but otherwise very similar in appearance.  Has the same antioxidant properties of autumnberry and is worth growing just for making juice, jelly and drying.  This strain produces a more varied ripening time, fruit size and different colored fruits too. As a result it may be a hybrid population. It may not be the images you see on the web of the named large fruited selections that ripen in July. The image we use on the web is from one of our customers who got the plants from us years ago.  Note: This hybrid may not be the type you are looking for as some apparently look just like autumn olive except the leaves are larger with the brown hairs. The goumi is said to be "non invasive" but there appears to be scant data on this other than anecdotal evidence.  Nitrogen fixing. Durable in a variety of soils except wet. Full sun is ideal.
