This natural hybrid with the a cultivated gooseberry and Northern Gooseberry produces a tart bright red fruit. The spiked red fruit is best processed into jam and pie filling as the skin is quite thick with a lot of spurs. But it can be eaten fresh and has a pleasant sour patch kid flavor once fully ripened on the bush. The yields are the highest we have seen on a gooseberry without the issue of foliar diseases or insect damage on the fruit. Red Tart is grown from cuttings and is a wild type hybrid and was selected by growing numerous seedlings of other red gooseberries that were immune to all foliage diseases.
