This mountain seedling cherry is a quasi wild form of the common sour cherry. It grows best in sandy soils in full sun with little competition from other trees and shrubs. Mont produces small to medium sized red fruited cherry similar to the variety North Star. Seedlings exhibit a mix of delicious sour cherry flavors similar to a cross of chokecherry and Montmorency.
Sour cherry Mont is one of the few natural hybrids of fruit that contain two variations of the same species. Currently sold out, but working on a new crop of fall of 2020.
|Genus & Species||Prunus cerasus x hybrid|
|Soil||Prefers sandy dry soil.|
|Climate||Not for high humidity because of fungal issues.|
|Ease of Cultivation||Easy to grow but tricky at times to have clean fruit due to insect damage. Can easily be controlled by organic sprays. Short stature, heavy fruit set makes fruit harvest relatively easy.|
