Genetic Diversity-Useful for Sauce, Juice, Fresh

Our Ecos pears were developed from a single tree in Michigan whose Pakistani origins crossed with neighboring Asian and European pears created this massive genetic mix. Fruits vary from 1-3 inch in size. Fruit is tart and delicious processed into sauce.Tolerant to every soil type except wet. If you love grafted uniformity then run away. If not plant in abundance as the trees are incredibly healthy and vigorous compared to their cultivated cousins.  This pear is often used for attracting white tailed deer and birds. We often harvest just the large fruited selections (over 2 inches in size) first as these are most favorable for deer. Some fruits remain in good condition until November and December. Others degrade quickly dropping starting in early September. Some of the selections will stay hung up in  the trees throughout December and January where winter birds eat them as the fruits blet and become mush like. The fruits are also used for making one heckuva pear jelly that is like no other pear. As one of customers said, "I hate pears, I hate pears,...(bites into our pear)  I love this pear."  There is no bland insipidity in these pears. Processed into jam, jelly or drink the flavors are similar to a quince mixed with crabapple.
