Tart, Red, Prolific -Open Field-Forest Edge
This species plum makes a delicious tart bright red jelly. Tastes a lot like a sour cherry when left to fully ripen on the tree. Late ripening for a plum starting in late September. Our planting produces loads of 1” plums. Fruit is free of worms without spray. The glossy leaves stay on late. Very high yielding plant—produces up to 2 bushels of fruit on mature plants. For better fruit set plant 2 or more. Plant will spread via stolons but not quite as heavy as the American Plum. Stolons are easily dug with this species and can be used to increase your planting.
