Northern Red Raspberry
Rich Strong Flavor-Small Seeded
One of best flavored raspberries with tiny seeds and flavor much like thimbleberry. And yes--small fruit with a big flavor. Each plant grows a cluster of 2-3 canes that reach only 2-3 ft. tall. Canes live for 2 years before production ends. This is a stoloniferous selection and is easy to propagate by root cuttings. Does not tip layer.‘It also is not pricky although it does have small prickles but are not like a normal raspberry with the hooked barbs. Found’ by seeing a large group of people near Paradise, Michigan in a middle of field happily picking away. That just might be paradise. Our seeds originally came from this ‘planting’ which now makes up about 25 genetically different types now growing at our farm in southern Michigan. We are now using the largest fruiting selections for our seed and plant stock as well as other plants found throughout the great lakes. Will grow in rock, sand and wet. Plant in full sun. Yields are lower than cultivated selections but flavor wins over on this one. Potted plants are grown from seed and each plant is genetically different.
