Turkish Runner Bean
Vigorous, Nitrogen Fixing, Edible Legume, Green Bean
Turkish runner bean is a vigorous and productive pole bean selection that has the best of qualities of a flat green bean without the fibrous nature of other pole runner beans. Our plan is to use this selection and others like it as a crop within other shrub crops as a source of nitrogen and a secondary benefit of edible green beans. The pods can reach up to 6 inches long and 1 inch wide. The vines can grow to 15 ft. or more and they appear resistant to rust so far. The strong growth of the beans make it an ideal companion crop within other woody plants providing cover as well as a food source for people. 80 days from planting to harvest. Harvest is a long season with this selection starting from 70 days and ending at 100 days.
