currently unavailable Starwhite Cluster is uniform in color and has a mild, nutty flavor. There are various sizes of tubers from small to medium all with a few nodes. It's not sweet, but has a nice mild flavor with a hint of pine if eaten raw.
This selection produces dense clusters of tubers which are very easy to clean. I discovered this selection in a bed of seedlings at my farm and found it to be high in yield with dense clustering and mild flavor with a crispy clean texture if it is eaten raw. The color is pure white and very clean looking. Many of the tubers are perfectly round. Under cultivation it works well in pots and produces smaller tubers that are easy to use compared to the big ones.
Starwhite Cluster was found as a chance seedling of Stampede. Its advantage from a culinary standpoint is its uniform small to medium size, high yields in field and grow bags plus smooth skin with no knobs. The flavor is mild as well. Stampede can turn into a giant clump of dense tubers hard to harvest compared to Starwhite Cluster. The plant itself is also smaller and more compact in growth habit like Sunray and Weisse Truffel.
