This Russian tomato is well known for its solid bright red fruit and an upright strong growth habit. This is a thick strong plant that holds all the fruit above the ground making it easy to pick and less susceptible to damage by insects. The fruits ripen late in August and September here at our farm. Very late in the tomato world. What impressed me was the almost perfect fruit completely immune to cracking and rather solid density probably good for packing. The flavor was not as good as other varieties but it makes up for it in its ease of production and clean fruit. Probably could be a commercial tomato variety. Needs further grow outs to select for higher yields and to stabilize the population more. This selection was grown isolated but needs further selection. This plant could easily be used in settings where little care is given.

Solanum lycopersicum |
Ease of Cultivation |
Plants are strong and compact in structure and do not look like most tomatoes. This selection may work well in containers. Plants branch very little and create a strong tree like tomato plant where the fruit is usually off the ground when ripening. The thick foliage seems to be very drought tolerant. |
