Russian Amur Silvergrass Seeds-Roots

Durable Russian Selection of Grass 

This Russian strain of silver grass is seed produced and is much taller than the species growing up to 8 ft. It is used for bio-fuel production, windbreak and cover plant. The thick canes stand on their own creating a mass of foliage and stems.  This plant runners like the Giant Miscanthus but not quite as dense.  It does produce some viable seed although very little is produced at my farm. It appears partially sterile.  I will check germination after collection.  The rhizomes spread slowly from the main plant growing out from the center. This species is stolon forming like mint. 

It actually can be mowed and I am sure it could be used as either a living mulch or bagged like lawn clippings for your garden. It is insanely fast growing and durable able to prevent compaction if driven on. The whole plant has incredible potential but also has fallen into the invasive species repertoire in some states. Here it has not reseeded at all.  Once my planting was established I began using it on slopes and other areas where I want to create a bank of vegetation that can also be mowed and yet be competitive with quack grass at my farm. The white sprouts are edible in spring, but there are small and slow to harvest. In many ways, a kind of a miniature bamboo shoot type of plant. 

Order will come with seeds and roots. Enough to continue the germplasm of this valuable plant.
