Grows as a single trunk tree. Flowers are pink in bud and when open are larger and hang in long racemes compared to other species. Many named selections come from this cross. Our seed was specifically selected from a large tree in upstate New York as well as seedlings that were grown to fruit from Lawyers Nursery company with good yields of sweet purple black fruits. Very good quality berries with a mild apple flavor. Fruiting begins in 5-8 years.

Apple serviceberry is known best for its varieties like Robin Hill. It is not quite a hybrid but more of a land race of Amelanchier and can be grown from seed. The trees most noticeable characteristic is its great flowering and clean foliage compared to other Amelanchier. Its vigorous growth and single trunk(s) make it an ideal serviceberry to establish as urban trees or mixed plantings for its edible fruit. My trees are located in an area that is frequented by song birds that love the fruit so it is imperative to get there as soon as they ripen.
