Judzilla Rose Seeds

currently unavailable Judzilla rose is a species rose found in central Europe. It is used for hips and the petals are used for conserves.  Similar to dog rose this species is a giant mound of  a rose plant reaching 10 to 15 ft. tall. The canes at our farm are immense reaching almost 2 inches in diameter. Certainly it is the godzilla of roses. Ironiically this species rose is rarely found in cultivation yet is highly regarded as one of Europe's most beautiful wild roses. The size of the plant, its vigorous growth and the bright red hips certainly fulfill these requirements. 

At my farm in Michigan, I  have found Judzilla to be a lot like dog rose with clean foliage all summer long, bright pink flowers and long one inch red hips.  Its durable nature and beautiful fragrance is worth growing. For a while I was working on larger cane like roses that could be used for woodworking and other related wood novelties like walking canes. The few that I have made really surprised me as to the hardness of the wood as well as its strength. This selection could be further developed for this purpose. The yields of the hips are not that heavy at my farm, but I only have one plant of it so nothing to compare. Also it is partly under an oak tree and this has reduced its yield.
