Selected seedling of Ooti oak selected for high yielding and vigorous tree with strong upright form and clean foliage. Produces vigorous seedlings similar to the parent tree which is crossed with bur hybrid oaks. This is probably one of the highest yielding white oak crosses at my farm. This tends to drop it into the biennial bearing camp. However that can be modified to a degree by fertilizer which will keep the tree 'pumped' for continual yields rather than all or none.
"Greatfull" Found as a seedling of Ooti, this one plant showed the most vigor plus had several flowerings early in its life indicating high yields. It was planted out near Ooti to hopefully provide a pollen source as well as for acorn production. It worked on both accounts. Probably one of most underused hybrids, this selection puts a dot on the hybrid swarm as it is so expansive to begin with. The clean foliage and high yields plus its tolerance to more alkaline conditions would be a good oak hybrid for many uses including timber, acorn for humans and wildlife use in general.
To germinate the acorns Plant the acorns right away after you receive them. They have already gone through dormancy. Some have established roots and others are just starting to sprout. Some of the acorns will sprout in a week or two. Either way, plan them now as to establish the roots.
300 acorns are in each package all from the Greatfull selection.
Scion wood can be requested with the seeds and sent with the seeds for free in the winter months as dormant scions.
