Keweenaw Thimbleberry

Selected plant from a hybrid cloud of thimbleberry and pink flowering thimbleberry. Grown from seed from a 2nd generation discovery of the largest clustering fruited selection.  Keweenaw can be grown in warmer climates into zones 5 and 6 and still yield well. Irrigation is necessary along with good growing conditions under mulch. No spray is required. The foliage stays clean 100 percent of the time with no virus or damage from cane borers. Deer are known to browse the plants in winter and early spring though. The plant is known for its heavy stolon production so this creates an opportunity to harvest the stolons and create larger colonies. Canes live for 5 or more years and should not be removed after fruiting like other raspberries. 

KEWEENAW:Available in Rooted Cuttings as dormant roots in the late fall after leaf fall and early spring before leafing in March. Roots can be set out for further rooting as the plant is highly stoloniferous so this allows you to take cuttings and clonally produce it very easily without any high tech means needed. The cuttings allow you to distribute and sell it as a variety. "Keweenaw" is a productive form of thimbleberry meant for use in a cultivated setting with irrigation and mulches to further increase its vigor and yields. Canes live up to 5 years or more before they need to be removed. New canes should be kept to allow for higher yields per plant.

Comes with 10 root cuttings. Tops have been cut off to encourage sprouting and faster cane production. Shipped dormant once in mid October and again once in late March. There are no options for shipping at other times. Limited availability.
