Sweet Blue Juneberry Seeds + Scions

500 Seeds+Scions, SBJU_S-500+SC $180.00 Out of stock

Reliable - Large clean sweet fruited selection of Allegheny serviceberry from northern Michigan.

Found as a chance seedling in northern Michigan this selection produces much more fruit than the Canadian selections with a mild sweet flavor. 1/2 inch size blue fruits are produced in loose clusters. This seedling was selected from a plant that did not fit the normal species found in northern Michigan. I am still not sure what species it might be. It even runners a little bit and is more of a bush than a tree. Flowers are similar to the saskatoon. The fruit quality is the best with just the right balance of tart and sweet.

This selection could use further development just by selecting vigorous seedlings with greater fruit production. The fruit is clean with this selection and rarely suffers from scab. The fruit is very good quality and can easily be eaten fresh. The fruits are produced all along the branches.

Both seeds and scions are sent of this selection. It can be grown true to type from seed or grafted.

To germinate the seeds: Treat like apple seeds. Give them 90-120 days of cold dormancy. After dormancy put at room temperature or lay out in a flat lightly covering the seeds with sand. Seeds will sprout within a months period. The seeds can be plucked out and then put into pots. Careful not to over water and cause damp off.
