This rare raspberry is found with the wild black raspberry where it is identical in all aspects except the fruit is a bright yellow fruit produced and has yellow or green colored canes. The sweet mild flavored fruit is small in size like most wild blackberries and produced in clusters. Even produced from seed, the seedlings also produce seedlings with yellow colored fruit. It does happen that an occasional seedling will produce black fruit but it is quite rare. You will see the natural regeneration of this subspecies on my farm as it is quite true to type. I started a more isolated planting and now use the most vigorous seed strains with the largest fruit production. This raspberry is especially good at colonizing in areas with poor and low organic soils.
"Sunshine" Variety: This is the most vigorous of the seedlings I have and is by far the most productive plant. There are several plants that pop out of a population that show very good vigor, leaf health and subsequent heavy fruit production. This is one of them. Although not a commercial selection like "Fall Gold", "Sunshine" can be produced by cuttings and rooted easily and be used as more of a wild type raspberry with tasty fruit with a mild pineapple type flavor. This selection like other black raspberries does spread more by tip layering and soon you will have a colony of it. Some of the other yellow seedlings are not strong at tip layering. "Sunshine" is a good addition to a wild fruit garden or possible a means to breed even higher yielding forms with a higher fruit to seed ratio.
To germinate the seed, fall plant and let nature takes it course. Seedlings will appear as tiny sprouts growing very slowly at first. Lightly sow the seeds on the surface of the soil barely covering them up. For germinating using the refrigerator method, store in lightly damp Canadian peat moss for 90-120 days at 33 to 38 F. After the cold period, plant directly on the surface of the soil and tamp in. The seeds will germinate over 2 months. Keep in mind a portion of the seeds will sprout the following year. The seeds have a hard seed coat which delays the germination. This is common with Rubus.
Comes with 1000 seeds and 4 cuttings to root.
