History and Provenance:
This bur oak or swamp white oak lumber was gifted to me by the late Ralph Ozmun of Climax, Michigan who noticed I was making shelves for my barn. He had purchased a farm and the previous owner had milled trees from his property and left much of the wood in an out building used for horses. Most of his property had both swamp white oak and bur oaks on it. I think it is swamp oak but it looks more like bur oak with the dark colorations in it. The pin oak frame and legs was harvested in Kalamazoo County, Michigan. This species is rare in circulation for lumber only because of the knots associated with the tree that never sheds it branches. The legs have cork on the bottom for ease of sliding on cement floors. Hickory nut decoration is from my farm. This table would also make a good overall work table as well.
OAK AND PINE STOOL; Chair has a commercial yellow pine top and bur oak legs from the same tree as the table. Cork on the bottom of the legs to make it easy to slide on smooth surfaces. . Polyurethane finish: tung oil pretreatment on the legs. 15 inch diameter seat. 25.5 inch height. The chair comes with the table and cannot be purchased separately.
