Feral Potato Tubers and True Seeds

A species level selection based on persistence in field conditions with cold and winter hardiness while being able to produce true seeds as a diploid or non-hybrid potato. Set to release in the fall of 2024 and spring of 2025 seasons. This selection can be grown in pots because of its small size and is useful from the standpoint of both as a wild type potato and cultivated in small space gardens. This selection has small tubers that vary from half inch to two inch sizes. They are produced in clusters and are often shallow in the soil. A portion may freeze under severe conditions if over wintered in the soil but so far this is not common in my plantings at my farm in Michigan. The yields would be considered low compared to other potatoes but can be easily be increased by planting much more densely.
