Neosinte Teosinte Seeds-Wild Corn

Ancient Grass meets Sweet Corn Equals Neosinte

'Neosinte' represents a forever changing dynamic population of a wild corn relative using seeds produced from my grow outs of the Northern Highland teosinte plant and a cross with heirloom blue sweet corn which had crinkly seeds.  Done over the course of twenty years, this specific seed source was used to create a diversity of wild corn with characteristics that vary tremendously from plant to plant. The goal was to create an outwardly expanding population free of selection which would allow corn to naturalize on its own as well as create a healthy corn substitute free of breeding. It is the opposite of what is 'normal' breeding and instead is focused on maximum diversity not uniformity.  The result is both popcorn and flour all on one ear. It doesn't separate out in the individual plants as one or the other. It's a mix of types both from the individual level as well as the population. 

Grass like in structure, Neosinte can grow in more drought conditions and produces a much lower yield per plant compared to regular corn. It becomes a grain plant more like wheat with dense clustering of cobs with kernels that can be exposed on a thin stalk wrapped in the cob. The kernels on a single cob or plant can contain all the corn we use today including: crinkly seed sweet corn, popcorn that actually pops, and field or dent corn along with the normal teosinte kernals which encase the embryo in a leathery casing. Neosinte can be ground and used as a corn flour substitute. It can also be popped. Normally to make use of pure teosinte, it is easily popped. Some kernals do not explode entirely but puff up white. 

I was very fortunate that I was able to produce this cross in quantity and continue it since I  began harvesting the seeds on my farm in greater numbers every year since 2020.  The listing shows three populations of Neosinte. One is unselected and the other two are listed below should you desire to continue there lines of diversity over time. 

WILD CORN -A primitive corn with teosinte that produces a thin cob packed with seeds on a thin cob. This is the same cross of neosinte but selected for its grass like qualities. Pops like popcorn. Variability ensured. It's a wild corn.  

PURPLE- An all purple foliage plant with vigorous growth to 7 feet.  Population shows a high percentage of purple foliage plants with a mix of kernal colors and types. This is the same cross of neosinte but selected for its color and variation in kernals from sweet, popcorn and teosinte.
