When my sister helped me pick wild strawberries at our family farm over 50 years ago, I realized that not everyone likes to be hunched over swatting horse flies while picking the teeny and delicate little strawberries in the middle of our swampy land. Yet the berries spoke to us in ways that few fruits do. They were so delicious, everything else that was causing some pain or suffering disappeared entirely. The tedious task became timeless as we talked about spirituality, health and our family ties. With help from my mom, I made strawberry jam from those berries which took an equal amount of time trying to take off the calyx of each fruit. The batch of jam was a success and soon the whole family benefited. Today this memory is my beacon of delight and the only reason I began to find wild strawberry selections and seedlings that could be produced in the same way cultivated strawberries are grown. To my surprise, that little berry was a powerhouse of a plant and one worth growing. If you too are enamored with the flavor and richness of the wild berry everyone knows then please read below in biologicalenrich.
